Helen Louise (Hayward) Emmel

Helen Louise Hayward Emmel died unexpectedly Sunday evening, April 8, 2018 in Peachtree City, Georgia. She was 51 years old.
Helen was born at 3:20 AM on July 12th, 1966 at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Ida May Cowen Hayward and Donald George Hayward. She moved around when she was growing up and lived in New Jersey, Italy, Pittsburgh, Florida, and back to Pittsburgh where she attended Mt. Lebanon High School. She proceeded with her education to get her Associates Degree in Accounting at Duff’s Business Institute in 1993 and completed all her in major coursework toward her bachelor degree at Point Park College while working full time, raising two children, and making a home for them and her husband.
She had a varied career in accounting with her clients and employers being compiled of; retailers, a non-profit organization, a system integrator, a newspaper, and an institute of higher education. She was a very caring person who had an infectious laugh. She loved people and animals. Vietnam Veterans Leadership Program (VVLP) was one of her accounting clients. She would also volunteer to help in their events in her spare time.
Helen was an active volunteer in the Vietnam Veterans Leadership Program (VVLP) Stand Down Event each year for several years until moving to Georgia. Stand Down is a day-long homeless Veterans services fair. Each year, VVLP would provide meals, access to health & community service providers, entertainment, barbers, clothing, & supplies.
Helen was a Cub Scout Den Leader where she would work with the boys in the den each week to teach a new skill or lessons about community service. Each year she would also run the Pack’s popcorn sale and the game room would be packed with popcorn until it would all get distributed to the scouts. If given the opportunity Helen would have given a home to every stray dog and cat she saw.
She is survived by her husband Gary Emmel, two children Christina Ann Riffe and David George Emmel II,
Two grandchildren Garrett D Riffe and Gavin Darius Riffe,
Siblings Denise Wylie, Scott Stiles, and Donald Stiles.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at the Readshaw Funeral Home, Inc. 1503 Brownsville Road, Carrick on Tuesday April 17, 2018 at 2 PM.
