Ann Nolan Balaban (Bubcha)

(September 15, 1943 – June 3, 2023)

Age 79, of Richmond, VA and formerly from Pittsburgh, PA, on June 3, 2023. Daughter of the late Harry and Olga Paciora; Beloved wife of Thomas R. Balaban, Jr. for 35 years, loving mother of Debra (Gary) Wenner, Kelly (Shawn Baca) Hirschensohn, and Heather (Randy) Rosemeier; loving step-mother of Thomas (Jenn) R. Balaban III, William (Kitty) M. Balaban, Jennifer (Gregory) Heurbin, Kristina Balaban, and Anne (Jason) Lucas; cherished grandmother of Nolan, Katie, Eve, Sarah, Connor, Anna, Evan, Morgan, Josh, Noah, Jake, Catherine, Kaylee, Billy, Matt, Owen, Emma, Logan & Kai; dear sister of Lesia (Russell) Piccioni, and the late Mary Dutzik , Bogdan (survived by Olga) Wierzbicki; also survived by nieces and nephews.

Ann was beloved by all who knew her including her circle of friends who became her extended family. Having been born in German refugee camp, she immigrated with her parents and sisters in 1956. Quickly after her arrival in the U.S.A., she learned to speak English and remained fluent in Ukrainian and Polish. Of all the names lovingly attached to her, none meant as much to her as that of Bubcha, Ukrainian for Grandmother. Her 19 grandchildren were her greatest joy.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday June 23, 2023 at Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Roman Catholic Church, 5200 Greenridge Dr, Pittsburgh, PA 15236 at

10:00 am, preceded by the recitation of The Rosary at 9:30 am.
