Anna (Floutsakou) Kornberg, born October 28, 1935 to Gregory and Constantina (Gikas) Floutsakou, died Friday May 13, 2022 of Pittsburgh, formerly of Athens Greece.
Married in Philadelphia, PA and in Athens Greece in 1962 to the late Sidney Julius Kornberg.
Loving mother of Ioulia (Nee' Jill) Kornberg.
Sister of the late George Floutsakou.
My mom....
My mom was a force of nature. She studied chemistry & became an aesthetician developing her own skin care line and owning her own salon in Austria in her early 20s.
She left Greece with her American husband and their new baby, came to the US and...speaking NO English, got a job with Adrien Arpel Cosmetics and worked her way up to becoming Vice President for 25 years.
Mamma K was smart, funny, and incredibly glamourous; the epitome of fashion. I loved watching her ballroom dance with dad. She used hysterical mixed metaphors, (my favorite ones being, “she smokes like a chain”, and "Happy the New Year" - which all my closest friends now say each Jan 1st).
She threw dinner parties that rivaled, (no - put to SHAME) the Greek Food Festivals. Anyone who would meet her would always comment, “Your mom is so adorable”. Her accent let her get away with anything.
When I was growing up, she became a second mom, a confidant to my closest friends, especially when their moms weren’t there for them. She loved all of my friends deeply and sincerely.
They moved to Greece to retire in 1992 and then after 23 years, they came back to the US in 2015 on my mom's 80th birthday. She cared for my dad until his dying day in 2019 even though HER health was failing.
Mom stayed strong but in these last six months she showed signs of dementia. Our relationship was tenuous at times, but I am SO blessed that during the last 3 weeks, she was lucid, happy, and we had joyful and loving conversations.
My mom was my world. And now she’s gone.
I hope Anna and Sid are dancing together again.
